37434 Original world record locomotive
One-time series of the 200 locomotives that took part in the Munich
world record of Feb. 21, 2007.
200 Märklin locomotives pull a 48 ton IC open seating car. Märklin
“pulls” into the Guinness Book of Records. The science and technology
program “W wie Wissen”, on German TV’s Channel One has a chance of
making it into the Guinness Book of Records: 200 Märklin class 143
model locomotives took part in an interesting experiment on the
grounds of DB Systemtechnik in Munich on February 21, 2007. H0 scale
1:87 Märklin locomotives had to pull a full-size German Railroad Inc.
(Deutsche Bahn AG) open seating IC car over a distance of 10 m / 32’
9-¾”. The car weighed approximately 48 tons empty and measured 27m /
88’ 7”. 200 class 143 Märklin locomotives, item no. 37433, stood
ready. Lined up on 50 tracks in groups of four, they were supplied
with power from 50 transformers. 3,000 VA were needed to move the IC
high capacity car. The experiment was successful and the 200 Märklin
locomotives pulled the first class car smoothly and purposefully over
the distance stipulated by the editors of the Guinness Book of
Records. The Märklin experts of 1. Märklin Modellbahn Team laid a
total of 625 m / 2050’ 6-¼” of Märklin C track, laid 1.5 km / 1,640
yards of cables and soldered 3,000 points.
